GSA_FD can be used for advanced analysis of underground systems in the frequency domain from DC to about 100 MHz and is commonly used for medium and large systems size like substations, photovoltaic plants or wind plants, for cathodic protection and anode bed analysis or for calculations at high frequency.
GSA_FD can be used also for advanced electromagnetic interference analysis of underground systems in the frequency domain from DC to about 100 MHz and is commonly used for the evaluation of interference between power cables and pipelines.
GSA_FD includes the tools SRA and SA for soil resistivity analysis, soil resistivity seasonal analysis and multilayer soil modelling.
GSA_FD is highly appreciated for its power and accuracy and is irreplaceable where the hypothesis of equipotential condition of the electrode is not acceptable.

GSA can be used for analysis of underground systems at low frequency and is commonly used for small and medium size plants like substations.
GSA includes the tools SRA and SA for soil resistivity analysis, soil resistivity seasonal analysis and multilayer soil modelling.
GSA is highly appreciated for its ease of use, user interface and quality of graphic output.

{tab GENERAL DESCRIPTION|title-active=GENERAL DESCRIPTION}

GSA is based on a PEEC static numerical model and to the equipotential condition of the electrodes and can analyse the low frequency performance of grounding systems composed by many distinct electrodes of any shape but with a limited size into a uniform or multilayer soil model.

GSA can take input data in the form of either graphical (from “dxf” files or from the integrated CAD) or numerical and render powerful graphical facilities via it’s optimised and validated computation algorithms, thus making it an indispensable tool for grounding system design and verification.
GSA includes the modules SRA to calculate multilayer soil model parameters starting from measured soil resistivity data and SA to calculate the effects of seasonal climate change.
GSA is essentially a low frequency tool but in several practical cases (with little electrodes), it can be also useful to calculate the impulse impedance of electrodes under lighting currents with an accuracy level adequate for many engineering applications.

XGSLab has reached a new milestone

We tested the module XGSA_TD with fast transients implicate in failures in gas insulated substations (GIS).
As known, these transients can have a rise time 10 ns and the significant components of the frequency spectrum can reach frequencies as high as 60 MHz.
We extended the application limit of the XGSA_TD module to 100 MHz.
The results we obtained are in good agreement with results in literature.

13 June 2019

2019 Grounding & Lightning CEATI Conference

We will participate together with our partner EasyPower LLC to the “2019 Grounding & Lightning CEATI Conference”.
Last year we participated to the CEATI Conference in Anaheim (CA) and we met consultants, manufacturers, and representatives from electric utilities in particular from the US and Canada.
This year we want to confirm our interest in the North American market.

12 February 2019

Data export to EMTP

We are pleased to announce the module XGSA_TD now includes an option to export frequency dependent self and mutual impedances to EMTP®. This option allows to simulate with a rigorous model the dynamic behavior of large grounding systems during electromagnetic transients. Another step forward.

XGSLab advances

We are we are about to reach the end of the year and we want to give you some advances for 2019.

2018 was an exceptional year for XGSLab, a year that we close with over 50 new customers worldwide.

We want to thank all our customers for the trust and enthusiasm they are sending us, a great way to start 2019.

We will close 2018 with the new XGSLab 9.0.1 release.

The new release will include the new NETS module.

NETS has been extensively tested and validated and is now almost ready to enter the market.

All other modules have also been improved thanks to valuable information from customers.

The greater the number of customers, the better will be XGSLab. We invite all customers to continue to be part of the XGSLab community and to provide suggestions for improving the program.

For our part, we will try to give a precise identity to this community and to respond to customers' needs with the correct priorities.

XGSLab new module NETS

We are working on a new module:

NETS is a very flexible tool to solve full meshed multiconductors networks and is based on the n-phases system representation.
This approach is general and overcome the classic method of symmetrical components and can be used to represents power systems as multiconductors networks enabling the consideration of asymmetrical systems also in presence of grounding circuits or circuits with a different phases number.
The network components (generators, lines, cables, transformers, loads ..) are represented with n-ports cells and the connection between cells is obtained by means of n-ports buses.
NETS can be used to solve networks in steady state or fault conditions and to calculate voltages and currents or short circuit currents (three phase, phase to phase, phase to phase to earth, single phase to earth) with or without fault impedances.
In particular, NETS can be used for the calculation of the fault current distribution.
NETS is then a very useful tools to calculate data input for others XGSLab modules (for instance the split factor or the current to earth) and represents the link between XGSLab and the commercial software for power systems analysis.

8 January 2018

XGSLab internal CAD

New XGSLab release includes a very useful internal CAD.

Now, is possible load a “dxf” file and also create a new layout using the internal tool “Draw”.

The “Draw” option opens a window where the User can directly draw in both 2D and 3D mode.

This tool allows the use of the keyboard buttons adopted by the main diffused CAD tools.

The tool “Draw” allows to draw lines (also using “ortho” option), circles, arcs … and allows a complete interactivity.

The tool “Draw” allows to create new layout or modify imported layout in a very easy way.

Results can now be exported in “dxf” format using the command “Export”.

XGSLab Low Frequency Breakdown Free

As known, due to the decoupling between the electric field and magnetic field, there is a low-frequency breakdown problem in the formulation of tools based on PEEC methods as XGSLab.

The frequency breakdown occurs because the contribution of the vector potential is swamped by that of the scalar potential at low frequencies. In other words, at low frequencies, PEEC methods become ill conditioned.

The problem is limited to cases where part of conductors are above and part below the soil surface or similar conditions but is anyway a tedious problem.

In last version, XGSLab algorithms have been improved and now XGSLab is low-frequency breakdown free. Another new great improvement in the XGSLab software.

24 July 2017

XGSLab Multilayer has arrived

After months of research and development, XGSLab multilayer has arrived.

New XGSLab version includes a very powerful algorithm able to consider a multilayer soil model with an arbitrary layers number in a very rigorous way (without constrains on layer thickness).

Multilayer soil model is available in the version “Enterprise”.

Moreover XGSLab includes many other improvements, in particular a new tool “draw” useful to create models directly inside XGSLab without external CAD.

XGSLab Time Domain Animation

The new module XGSA_TD is coming. This new powerful module will allows the same XGSA_FD calculations in the Time Domain.

Results will be displayed in many ways and also with animation.

The following video shows the earth surface potential and touch and step voltages evolution in the time domain related to a transient current injected in a grounding system.

The same results are vailable for both electric and magnetic fields.

More news will be published soon.
